Teachers Training Program through ESR (Year 2007)

Education occupies an important place in the system all over the country. We can not make a sound society without a sound education. For a sound base we need the perfection in educational system.
During the Inspection of Schools it was observed that, the High School Teachers are almost directly promoted from Primary School Teachers, so that they can not teach the subjects other than Sindhi, Urdu & Islamiat, because they personally do not know about other subjects, especially English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.
To over come this problem, Sayed Badar ul Zaman Shah, DOE (Academic & Training) was assigned by EDO (Education) Matiari,to arrange the training programs at Professional Development Centres of Matiari & Hala,where at least one teacher from every High School should participate in the trainings. The funds for this program were allocated from ESR Training Funds.

  • Objectives
    • To provide trainings to High School Teachers in English, Mathematics and Science Subjects.
    • To make efforts for capacity building of all Teachers..
    • To crate educational environment.
  • Strategy
  • District Matiari was established in 2005.
  • The share in Old Hyderabad’s ESR budget (2001-02) was released to the District Education Department Matiari in September 2006.
  • Sayed Badar ul Zaman Shah, District Officer Education (Academic & Training) Matiari was assigned to arrange the training programs at Professional Development Centres of Matiari & Hala.
  • Master Trainers were selected on their capability and experience basis.
  • A Manual was developed with the help of Master Trainers and senior teachers under the supervision of District Officer Education (Academic & Training) Matiari.
  • The Schedule of Training was circulated to all High Schools of District Matiari.
  • The first Six day work shop was started at Professional Development Centre Matiari, then next week two Six day work shops were started at Professional Development Centre Matiari & Professional Development Centre Hala at the same time.
  • Assessment

During all these workshops Sayed Badar ul Zaman Shah, District Officer Education (Academic & Training) Matiari and EDO (Education) Matiari frequently visited the training centres and got feed back from teachers.

  • The teachers were getting extra ordinary interest in getting trainings and were excited to learn.
  • They advised to continue the training for whole year.
  • As the training was scheduled as one subject one class one week, for example the training of Mathematics of class VI was given for one week on each centre.
  • So that 18 training programs were arranged, 9 programs on Mathematics of class VI to VIII and 9 programs on English Mathematics of class VI to VIII.
  • Teachers gave feed back that, now they have some confidence to teach English & Mathematics in classes.
  • Teachers advised to continue trainings for each subject of each class minimum for one month.
  • Beneficiaries

In 18 programs,360 HSTs & JSTs got training and now their capacity of teaching Mathematics and English is enhanced.Through this E S R, 360 Male & Female Teachers of High Schools availed these subject wise trainings in English & Mathematics subjects, who do teach these subjects in class VI,VII and VII.

Literacy Centers For Women

District Literacy Program through ESR (Year 2007)

Education occupies an important place in the system all over the country. We cannot make a sound society without a sound education. For a sound base we need the perfection in educational system.
According to a rough estimate near about 100000 (One hundred thousand people of district Matiari (Age group 10-35) are illiterate. There is need of big attention to educate them.

Vision

Access to education for all through non-formal adult literacy.

Goal

To improve social status of people through adult literacy and community based intervention.

Objectives

    • To literate 350 people (10-35 years of age)through the establishment of 14 literacy centers.
    • To make efforts for informal literacy certification through policy dialogue.
    • To improve social status of targeted population through community mobilization and awarene

Strategy

  • District Matiari was established in 2005.
  • The share in Old Hyderabad’s ESR budget (2001-02) was released to the District Education Department Matiari in September 2006.
  • Due unavailability of District Officer Education (Literacy), Sayed Badar ul Zaman Shah, District Officer Education (Academic & Training) Matiari was assigned to establish Literacy centres in district Matiari.
  • In this regard, he visited 81 low literacy rate villages conducted the meetings with community and on need base established, 14 Adult Literacy centres (within the limit of Budget allotted) for Females on 14 different locations.
  • Each centre contained the cluster of 25 females of age 10 plus.
  • 14 literacy Teachers were selected from those villages and a training program “How to Teach Adults” was conducted for those teachers at District Head Quater Matiari.
  • Other staffs were selected and these Female Literacy Centres started the work.
  • During six months, EDO(Education),DOE(Academic & Training),DDOE(A&T) and concern ADOEE visited these centres several times,
  • To monitor the activities of these centres
  • To pay the salaries to Teachers and other staff
  • To evaluate the students
  • To deliver the books, note books, stationary and other material

Assessment

After six months, a verbal and written examination for these students was conducted, in which,

  • They were asked for reading the lessons from the book and cross questions were asked by them.
  • Simple mathematic questions were asked by them verbally.
  • They were asked for reading the paragraphs from news papers.
  • Simple arithmetic problems were given to them in writing.
  • Simple topics related to common life were given to them for writing the essay.

Beneficiaries

  • In 14 female centres, 350 female students have become literate in six months, which will have positive effect on 350 families and their children.
  • 14 Lady Teachers got employment along with other staff at centres for the period of six months
  • These all 350 female students can read books, newspapers in Sindhi and can read and calculate prices on different utility goods.
  • They can write simple paragraphs in Sindhi, can read & write English alphabet along with speaking of simple English words and sentences.
  • They can do simple calculation just as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Beside this now they can stitch simple cloths and read Holy Quran also.

Budget Utilization

  • The released amount from ESR Budget was Rs.498, 500/-.
  • The expenses on these 14 Adult Literacy centres were Rs.497, 600/-,
  • Therefore unused budget is Rs.900/-only.

These centres have completed their work and successfully literate 350 females.But these efforts are not considerably enough to literate one hundred thousand illiterate population of age 10-35 years. Therefore more efforts would be taken in this regard.

D I G III (ESRA USAID)

  1. Latest Computers along with,17 inch LCD Monitor, laser Printer, Internet Facility are provided to all DOEs and ADOEEs including furniture, through DIG III program of ESRA USAID.
  2. 3 Professional Development Centers are established at all three Taluka Head Quarters, having Multimedia Projectors, Screens, latest computers, Libraries, Books, Furniture and Air Conditioners.
  3. Subject wise training program for 500 High School Teachers in English & Mathematics Subjects.
  4. Training officers on EMIS tool box at Sukkur.
  5. Strengthened DEMIS through DIG III Program of ESRA USAID, by providing Photo Copier, Multimedia Projector, computers, Printers, Digital Camera, Power management system, Air conditioners, Soft ware’s and Internet facility to DEMIS Office including DEMIS consultant for one year to assist the DEMIS Office.
  6. Salary of 64 ESRA Teachers was Paid through DOG III Program
  7. Provided the Computer Trainings for All Officers, One HST from each High School, a cluster of 25 PSTs and ministerial Staff.
  8. Free School Bags to Primary School Students.
