BRIEF HISTORY OF DISTRICT MATIARI<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sindh is the Valley of Saints. Ancient Sindh spread up to Multan (Now in Punjab Province). Islam was first spread through the preachers (Sahabas and Saints) who educated the people of this valley through their teachings. For the last several hundred years, the region of Sindh, from Nawabshah<\/u> to Thatta,<\/u> has been known as the Area of SAHTEYA<\/u> (Literature & Education), and Matiari is the center of this region.<\/span><\/p>\n

Matiari is one of the oldest territories of Sindh. Its civilization is about five thousand years old. It has a very bright past from an educational point of view. This region produced several religious scholars, Educators, Intellectuals, and Poets who spread the essence of their knowledge all over the subcontinent.<\/span><\/p>\n

Matiari is the land of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, the great saint, soofi poet, and lover of Sindh and the world as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the old days, the British Government always acquired (FATWA) from Scholars (Ulama`s) MATIARI according to Muslim Law to decide Muslim disputes in a court of law. Akhund Azizullah, the first translator of the Holy Quran in the Sindhi language, was also a native of Matiari.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0The First \u201cSHAHEED<\/u>\u201d of the \u201cKhilafat movement,<\/u>\u201d Muhammad Raheem Qazi,<\/u> was a citizen of Matiari Town.<\/span><\/p>\n

Matiari Town was established by \u201cSayeds<\/u>\u201d, whose forefathers had come from \u201cHIRAT<\/u>\u201d. Before them, there was a small village of the tribe \u201cCHANG\u201d at this place.<\/span><\/p>\n

GEOGRAPHICAL LIMITS<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

The north borders of District Matiari meet with the District \u201cNawabshah\u201d, in the East, they touch District \u201cSanghhar\u201d, in the south of Matiari, there is Hyderabad District, and in the west, Indus touches the borders of Matiari, which plays a basic role in the agricultural growth of this area.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

CULTURE<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

The culture of Matiari is mixed; some customs are taken from Hindu culture, but as here about 95% of people are Muslims, Islamic traditions are dominant. There are lots of racial groups do live in Matiari, some considerable of them are \u201cSAYED\u201d,\u201d KHASAKELY\u201d, \u201cMEMON\u201d,\u201d MALLAH\u201d, \u201cBHATTI\u201d, BALOCH\u201d, \u201cKHOSA\u201d, \u201cBAGRI\u201d, and \u201cKOLHI\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

POVERTY RATE<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

The poverty rate is nearly the same as that of other rural districts in Sindh.<\/span><\/p>\n

LITERACY RATE<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

The literacy rate is considerably high, especially in the Taluka Headquarters, compared to the national literacy rate.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

CROPS <\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

The main crops of this district are Cotton, Wheat, and Sugarcane, but besides these, a lot of other crops are cultivated. The fruits and vegetables of this region are also considerable. \u201cNasarpur\u201d <\/u>is the biggest market for \u201cOnion<\/u>\u201d in Asia.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

INDUSTRY<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

As Matiari is very near to Hyderabad, the people of Matiari accomplish their industrial needs from there, but the old industrial products of Matiari are very much popular all over Pakistan and abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n

These industrial products are \u201cKHADEE\u201d, \u201cKASHEE\u201d and \u201cJUNDI\u201d of Hala, \u201cLOONGEE\u201d & \u201cKHES\u201d of Nasarpur, and \u201cAJRAK\u201d of \u201cMATIARI\u201d City. A sugar mill named \u201cMATIARI SUGAR MILL\u201d is situated in the vicinity of Matiari.<\/span><\/p>\n

After the creation of this District, its population stood at 515,331,<\/u> and it contains three Talukas: Matiari, Hala, and Saeedabad.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Nowadays, District Matiari is divided into 19 union councils.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

According to the Census 2023, the population of Matiari is 849376<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
