Clothes Distribution among Displaced Persons

The floods in Sindh in 2011 were unprecedented, characterized by the highest recorded rainfall in the region from August 11 to September 14, 2011. This period was marked by relentless downpours that overwhelmed the local infrastructure and waterways, leading to widespread inundation. The primary factor contributing to these catastrophic floods was the intense and sustained rainfall that fell over the region, which exceeded historical averages and created conditions ripe for flooding.

As the situation unfolded, the impact on the local communities was devastating. Homes were submerged, livelihoods were destroyed, and many families were displaced, facing dire circumstances. However, following September 15, 2011, a glimmer of hope emerged as the water levels began to recede from the flooded regions. The receding waters were observed at a rate of approximately 167 square kilometers per day, allowing some areas to gradually return to normalcy, although the recovery process would take much longer.

In District Matiari, the response to the disaster included significant humanitarian efforts to assist those affected. One notable contributor was the esteemed Madam Naheed Durrani, who recognized the urgent need for support in the aftermath of the floods. She provided a substantial quantity of stitched clothing, which was essential for the displaced individuals and families who had lost their belongings to the rising waters.

On Advise of My Friend Respected Naveed Ahmed Shaikh and Madam Dr.Shireen Narejo Sahiba, I collected more than 200 Children’s Suits from the house of Mr.Aashif Iqbal in Hyderabad on 06-11-2011 morning. (One Day before Eid Day of Eidul Adha)

In my efforts to contribute to the relief work, I conducted a thorough survey of the most severely affected areas within the Saeedabad Subdivision of District Matiari. This assessment allowed me to identify the communities and individuals who were in the greatest need of assistance. Armed with this information, I organized the distribution of the garments provided by Madam Durrani, ensuring that those who had suffered the most received the clothing they desperately required. This initiative not only helped to meet a basic need but also served to restore a sense of dignity and hope among the affected populations as they began the long journey of recovery and rebuilding their lives in the wake of the disaster.

With the help of Mr.Muhammad Bux Kaka SPE Saeedabad, I distributed all these clothes among the children of rain-affected people living at,
